Why In-House BJJ Tournaments Rock!

Recently our Nova kids had the opportunity to participate in an LCCT Milwaukee/Kenosha family tournament. For most of the kids it was their first time competing and rolling with unfamiliar faces. By the end of the day after all the smiles, occasional tears and tough matches, the pride that filled the room was felt by everyone on and off the mat. The kids learned so much and left it all the mat. There are so many reasons why in-house tournaments are an amazing opportunity.
Reason 1: In-house tournaments are a great practice round for larger, more intimidating tournaments by giving kids the chance to roll in an unfamiliar environment against an unfamiliar opponent. They are mentally prepared for larger challenges later.

Reason 2: It teaches them that there is more more to the sport of jiu-jitsu than winning or losing. Maintaining good sportsmanship during both wins and losses teaches them important life and coping skills. In-house tournaments are a great place to experience the emotional rush of competing!

Reason 3: It gives them a sense of camaraderie. The Milwaukee BJJ kids made new friends in the Kenosha kids and strengthened their LCCT family mentality. The Wisconsin jiu-jitsu community has a whole new generation growing and getting stronger!

Reason 4: It strengthens listening skills. At the gym, they aren’t necessarily listening for specific instructions aimed directly at them during every roll. Training them to listen for a coach during a roll is important for later at larger events with more distractions.

Reason 5: It builds confidence. A kid who would never have thought of competing now has the perfect “test run” tournament and gives them perspective on where they are on their jiu jitsu journey.
We are so proud of our jiu-jitsu kids! They work hard every week and continue to progress at an impressive rate!
